YouTuber PewDiePie Is More Liked Than LeBron James Among Gen Z Males, Study Finds
Controversial YouTube creator PewDiePie has the same name recognition as NBA superstar LeBron James among young males in the U.S., but actually has higher favorability rating, Variety reports. These results come from a new study released by Morning Consult that surveyed Gen Z and Millennials to gauge their feelings about internet influencers. The study drew on interviews with over 2,000 young Americans between the ages of 13-38. For Gen Z, major influencers were found to be as well-known as mainstream celebrities, and sometimes even better known — only one celebrity, Justin Bieber, was better known than PewDiePie. Among Gen Z females, YouTuber Shane Dawson was better known than tennis star Serena Williams or actress Jennifer Aniston, although Beyoncé and Zendaya had the highest favorability and name-recognition ratings with them. The survey also found that young Americans trust influencers more than celebrities as brand spokespeople.
