Women Artists Rule the Day at 2019 MTV EMAs

Women artists shined at the 2019 MTV EMAs, with standout performances by Dua Lipa, Spanish singer Rosalie and Halsey, Billboard reports. The big night for women performers didn’t end there, as female artists also won many of the big awards. Taylor Swift won the Best Video award for “ME!” while Billie Eilish won Best Song for “Bad Guy,” and also picked up the Best New Artist award. Nicki Minaj won for Best Hip-Hop Artist, and FKA Twigs won for Best Alternative, while Halsey picked up the Best Pop artist and Best Look awards. “I feel so lucky to be making pop music at a time when pop music is so special, where so many of the genres are blending together,” Halsey said. Breaking the female stranglehold on the awards was Shawn Mendes, who was named Best Artist. Closing the show was Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, who won the Rock Icon award. “I want to congratulate MTV for reorganizing my brilliance,” he told the crowd before performing his solo single “Once” and Oasis classic “Wonderwall.”
