“The SpongeBob Musical” to Debut on Nickelodeon This Weekend
Parents don’t have to fly their family to New York City to experience a kid-friendly Broadway show, because now they can see one from the comfort of their own home. As The Los Angeles Times reports, Nickelodeon will premiere the Tony-nominated SpongeBob Musical this coming Saturday. The musical closed in New York in September when its theater shut down for multi-year repairs, but the cast came back together last month to record The SpongeBob Musical: Live on Stage! It will be simulcast at 7 p.m. ET on TeenNick and Nicktoons, as well as on Nickelodeon. It’s part of the 20th anniversary celebration of SpongeBob SquarePants this year. “As a young person who didn’t grow up in New York, this would’ve meant a lot to me,” said musical star Ethan Slater. “I hope this will inspire a new generation of theatergoers, who aren’t close to Broadway, to check out regional productions or tours.”
