The Rock’s Dad & WWE Hall of Fame Wrestler Rocky Johnson Passes Away at 75
The WWE announced on Wednesday that Hall of Fame wrestler Rocky “Soul Man” Johnson (born Wayde Douglas Bowles,) has passed away at the age of 75. Johnson, who is father of movie star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, began wrestling in the mid-1960s, and his career took off when he joined WWE in 1983. “Soul Man” had memorable rivalries with Greg “The Hammer” Valentine, Don Muraco and Adrian Adonis, and he joined up with Tony Atlas to form The Soul Patrol. The pair became first African-American Tag-Team champs in WWE history when they defeated The Wild Samoans on Dec. 10, 1983. Johnson retired in 1991, and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008.
