State Farm Accuses Shannen Doherty of Using Cancer Diagnosis for a Payout

State Farm is firing back after Shannen Doherty sued them over the cost of repairs following a fire at her L.A.-area home. Page Six reports that on Wednesday, the insurer accused the actress of using her recent cancer diagnosis to “garner sympathy by her contention that State Farm must rebuild her entire house.” They also said, “Plaintiff improperly claims she is entitled to have her entire home rebuilt at a cost of $2.7 million because she has breast cancer and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.” Earlier this week, the 48-year-old Doherty stated in newly filed legal documents that she is “dying of stage 4 terminal cancer” after revealing on Good Morning America that her breast cancer had returned after a three-year remission. Doherty also said in the new filing that she can’t “live out her remaining years peacefully in her home” because State Farm won’t pony up for repairs.
