At Least 3,500 Parents May Regret Baby Name after Sunday’s “Game of Thrones”
Daenerys may have seemed like a great name for a baby girl–until the most recent episode of Game of Thrones aired. Caution: Big spoilers ahead! As the Washington Post reports, Social Security Administration data show that more than 3,500 girls in America have been named Daenerys or Khaleesi (another name for the character) since Game of Thrones’ 2011 debut on HBO. They were apparently inspired by the exiled princess’ fantasy heroics thus far in the series, such as liberating slaves. But, on the penultimate episode of the series Sunday, Daenerys Targaryen flew into a genocidal rage, killing thousands of innocent people. Welp, all of those cute little Khaleesis and Daeneryses may not be winning popularity contests in school anymore.
