Celebrity images are being used to falsely endorse products, and some stars are taking a stand. Sandra Bullock and Ellen DeGeneres both filed lawsuits challenging what they call the "celebrity endorsement theft" industry. These industries use unauthorized images of Bullock and DeGeneres to endorse their beauty products, particularly skin care.
Unfortunately, it can be difficult to target specific individuals in these cases. The suit refers to them as "Does" and accuses them of using templates that swap out the name of the product being sold. The FTC has warned the public about this in the past, citing other celebrity victims like Stephen Hawking and Anderson Cooper.
