PETA Wants to Replace Real Groundhog With A.I. Version on Groundhog Day

As far as the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is concerned, it’s time for Punxsutawney Phil “to be retired.” According to The Washington Post, with Groundhog Day coming up on Sunday, PETA just sent a letter to the famous groundhog’s handlers asking them to use “artificial intelligence” instead of “a real animal.” The letter continues, “By creating an A.I. Phil, you could keep Punxsutawney at the center of Groundhog Day, but in a much more progressive way.” In further explaining its stance, PETA argues that “gentle, vulnerable groundhogs are not barometers” for seasonal weather and that their A.I. suggestion would “breathe new life into a tired tradition and finally do right by a long-suffering animal.”
