Mitch McConnell Tells GOP He’ll Start Trump’s Impeachment Trial Next Week
Way to ruin that TGIF feeling, MItch! Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell reportedly told fellow GOP lawmakers on Thursday that President Trump’s Senate impeachment trial could start next week. The news comes after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also said Thursday that she could send articles of impeachment to the Senate soon. “I’m not holding them indefinitely. I’ll send them over and that will probably be soon,” she said. “I think we should move smartly and strategically.” Meanwhile, GOP Senators told reporters that McConnell told them, “Don’t expect to be home next weekend,” according to Sen. Kevin Cramer of North Dakota. The New York Post reports that the Senate would be in session six days a week during the trial, which is expected to take several weeks.
