When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were organizing packages to be delivered to sex workers on the streets of Bristol, she came up with the idea of adding a personal touch.
The pregnant Duchess of Sussex decided to grab a marker and add notes like "You are brave" and "You are strong" with hearts on the peels of bananas that were being handed out, along with other items.
MAKING HER MARK
"Oh, actually do you have a Sharpie marker? I have an idea," she reportedly announced. "I saw this project this woman had started somewhere in the States on a school lunch program."
Meghan explained, "On each of the bananas she wrote an affirmation, to make the kids feel really, like, empowered. It was the most incredible idea – this small gesture."
The packages were set to be distributed by One25, a charity that helps sex workers, bringing them food, advice and blankets.
A volunteer at the organization, who is a former sex worker, told reporters, "I can imagine being on the van, and ‘Meghan wrote this thing, and what?’ I think they might not eat it. I think that banana would be at home until it is rotten. Because I would do the same."
In addition to supporting women, the pair showed royal grace when a boy lost his cool speaking about his experience at a historic theatre that does outreach with local kids.
"When you’re on the stage, you can’t be like, you know, f—— around on the stage," the boy explained to the expectant parents. Meghan reportedly laughed and Harry grinned while pretending to lose his balance.
