Meghan Markle says her friends told her not to marry Prince Harry because the British tabloids would "destroy" her life if she became a member of the royal family.
Meghan makes that shocking revelation in the behind-the-scenes ITV documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey. In a new clip of show, which aired Sunday in the U.K. and will air on Wednesday in the U.S. on ABC, she admits she wasn't prepared for the scrutiny she, Harry and their five-month-old son Archie have dealt with.
Markle said: "It's um. Hard. when I first met my now-husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy, but my British friend said to me, 'I'm sure he's great, but you shouldn't do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life.' And I very naively — I'm an American we don't have that there. 'What are you talking about, that doesn't make any sense.' I didn't get it."
The intensity has become so dire, Harry launched two suits against the tabloids, and the pair are taking a break from the public eye from mid-November through the Christmas holidays.AUDIO: MEGHAN MARKLE ON TABLOIDS
