Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have announced the name of their new foundation. The Registrar of Companies for England and Wales approved their request to name the org Sussex Royal the Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Sussex Royal for short.
Sussex Royal, of course, is also the name of their joint Instagram account.
Meghan and Harry officially pulled out of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Royal Foundation last month, with a pledge to start one of their own. The Royal Foundation was created in 2011 by William, Kate and Harry, and Meghan joined after her marriage, but the pair signaled their desire to go their own way and focus on their own programs. They also decided to split their court (a.k.a. offices, or households), prompting persistent rumors of a "feud" between the pair.
Still, despite the rumors, they often appear in public together, most recently at a Royal Polo Match, and then again at Wimbledon.
Harry and Meghan will run the foundation with Natalie Campbell, who worked at the Royal Foundation. She will direct organizing and choosing causes that fit their mission. Previously, Meghan and Harry have been said to be interested in focusing on environmental and educational iniatives.
