LeBron James Praises Ex-Teammate Kyle Korver’s Essay on Racism & White Privilege

On Monday, Utah Jazz guard Kyle Korver published a first-person essay on The Players’ Tribune in which he reflected on his privileged status as a white man playing in the NBA. “Demographically, I have more in common with the fans in the crowd at your average NBA game than I have with the players on the court,” wrote Korver. Referring to a recent incident involving a heckler at a Jazz game allegedly yelling racially charged taunts at Oklahoma City point guard Russell Westbrook, Korver said that he came to feel that the incident “was about racism in America,” adding, “As a white man, I have to hold my fellow white men accountable.” Korver’s essay was widely praised on social media, with his former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate, LeBron James, tweeting, “Salute, my brother! Means a lot.”
