Kim Kardashian West Trademarks “Kimono,” Critics Respond

Kim Kardashian West is once again being accused of cultural appropriation, after filing a trademark for her new Kimono Solutionwear line of shape wear. The Los Angeles Times reports that Kardashian debuted the new line on Instagram Tuesday, writing, “Kimono is my take on shapewear and solutions for women that actually work. I would always cut up my shapewear to make my own styles, and there have also been so many times I couldn’t find a shapeware [sic] color that blended with my skin tone so we needed a solution for all of this.” Critics were quick to slam the name of the shape wear line, calling it “problematic at best” and describing Kardashian as a “culture vulture.” Kardashian was also dragged for not using any plus-size models in her promotional images–and for not having zippers.
