Kanye West Shares More Details About “Nebuchadnezzar” Opera

Kanye West has shared more details about his Nebuchadnezzar opera, which is premiering this coming weekend at L.A.’s Hollywood Bowl. According to Pitchfork, a press release says the work is “based on the biblical story of the Babylonian King from the Book of Daniel,” which “recounts Nebuchadnezzar’s transition from wicked, imperious, self-declared ruler to a true believer who finds salvation in his faith.” To tell this story, the opera uses “elements from different worlds, including opera, fine art, modern dance, and gospel music.” And as to why Kanye decided to do an opera, the release notes it’s “an expression of his commitment to both his faith and ever-expanding musical palette.” The Nebuchadnezzar performance takes place at 4 p.m. local time on Sunday.
