Japan Sending Patent Officials to U.S. Over Kim Kardashian “Kimono” Row

<div>After putting the “oh, no!” in “kimono” by attempting to trademark the word for her shapewear collection, Kim Kardashian will soon be facing the ire of Japanese officials over her misguided move. On Tuesday, Japan’s Trade Minister Hiroshige Seko announced that the country would be sending patent officials to the U.S. to discuss Kim’s kimono row. “This has become a big deal on social media,” Seko said. “The kimono is regarded around the world as a distinct part of our culture. Even in America, kimono is well known to be Japanese.” He added that he wanted “a careful examination” of the matter, despite the fact that Kim already announced she’d find a new name for her undergarments. “When I announced the name of my shapewear line, I did so with the best intentions in mind,” Kim tweeted Monday. “My brands and products are built with inclusivity and diversity at their core and after careful thought and consideration, I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name…Thank you for your understanding and support always.”</div>
