James Dean Isn’t the Only Dead Celebrity This New Company Will Bring to VR & Films

Amid the hoopla about a digital James Dean appearing in an upcoming war film, the company responsible for that is announcing plans to create digital versions of other dead celebrities as well. Variety reports that Worldwide XR owns the rights to over 400 celebrities, including Maya Angelou, Andre the Giant, Burt Reynolds, and Bettie Page. CEO Travis Cloyd is aware of the backlash against the digital Dean. “It’s disruptive,” he admits. “Some people dislike it.” He says the company will attempt to do their dead celebs justice and that he’s excited to bring digital versions of celebrities to augmented reality and virtual reality where people can interact with them. There are even more plans for James Dean. “Think of it as James Dean 2.0,” he said.
