DR. PHIL GETS GREEN LIGHT THROUGH 2023: Phil McGraw is here to stay. The host and executive producer of Dr. Phil has signed a new deal with CBS Television Distribution to continue the show through 2023, bringing the talk show into its 21st season. Dr. Phil has been the highest-rated daytime talk show for the past seven years. "I am so proud to extend my relationship with CBS," said McGraw. "Carla Pennington, my unbelievably talented executive producer since day one, leads the most talented and committed team in television, delivering quality, meaningful content every day for so many years. And perhaps the most important team member, my wife, Robin, who has been a part of the show since its inception and is such an invaluable touchstone for me personally."

DAKOTA JOHNSON BRINGS GRANDMOTHER TO SUSPIRIA DEBUT: But not just any granny, mind you. Dakota Johnson brought her 88-year-old grandmother Tippi Hedren, of The Birds and Marnie fame. The pair posed, with Johnson in a sparkly red Celine and Hedren opting for glam black slacks and a black-and-white printed jacket.

RALPH FIENNES HAILS FILMMAKING NOW, MORE THAN EVER: Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the Tokyo Film Fest, Ralph Fiennes opined that the business of making films is more important than ever in a time of partisanship and struggle. He said: "Films have the power to ... inspire and show us our common humanity. They are vital in a world, which is falling apart. We really must prize our common humanity, it’s very important." The festival runs through November 3rd.

VIGGO MORGENSON WANTS TO DIRECT: Green Book star Viggo Morgenson hopes to direct like David Cronenberg and Peter Farrelly. "There’s one thing that I pay to attention to, apart from the technical aspects of storytelling, that I think is the most important on a human level and on a creative level," Mortensen told The Hollywood Reporter. "It’s that no matter how different the tastes or the storytelling techniques of David Cronenberg or Matt Ross or Pete Farrelly, all of them share one thing in common: they’re team players." He also says he wants to work with the likes of Mahershala Ali again. "Mahershala Ali, he’s not only a very talented actor, but he’s a talented person in terms of his sensibility. He’s very generous," said Mortensen. "A story about two guys in a car could be boring, even if the dialogue is good." Morgenson is currently at the Rome Film Fest, which continues through Sunday.

HULU ADDS ABC NEW LIVE, CBSN TO LINEUP: With less than two weeks before the 2018 U.S. midterm elections, Hulu is welcoming ABC News Live and CBS NewsCBSN to its stable. The made-for-the-internet 24-hour news channels joins Cheddar, the startup news network that joined Hulu this spring. Hulu’s $40 per month package also includes traditional cable networks like CNN and Fox News.
