OSCARS RATINGS ARE UP: The ratings for the 2019 Oscars telecast are up over last year. The show, which went without a host, drew a 20.1 rating in metered market homes, up about 6% over 2018. Last year’s telecast slumped 16% compared with 2017.

NETFLIX SETS SECOND AFRICAN ORIGINAL: Number 37 director Nosipho Dumisa has been tapped to helm Blood & Flow on Netflix as the mega-streamer expands its African footprint. The young adult drama will follow a teen’s uncovering of her family’s past in South Africa. "We are delighted to be investing further in African content and to partner with Nosipho and the team at Gambit Films to bring our second original series from South Africa to Netflix," said Netflix vp international originals Kelly Luegenbiehl. "Following on the heels of Queen Sono, Blood & Water is the next step in our further investment in original African content and we're excited to explore more projects across the region."

DID TV WIN THE OSCARS? The Oscars, which honor films, may have done TV shows a favor, The Hollywood Reporter points out. All four of Sunday's acting winners — Regina King, Rami Malek, Mahershala Ali and Olivia Colman—are currently starring in TV shows. King is set for HBO’s Watchmen, Malek is starring in the fourth and final Mr. Robot, Colman is headed to Netflix’s The Crown and Ali is wrapping up the third season of HBO’s True Detective. Peter Farrelly, director of Best Picture winner Green Book, is helming Loudermilk next season and Spike Lee, who nabbed an Oscar for BlacKkKlansman, is set for a second season of She’s Gotta Have It.
