Amblin/Universals’ The House With a Clock in the Walls pulled in about $27 million this weekend, and A Simple Favor took second place with $10.4 million in its second weekend out.
While haunted family title The House was a coup for Eli Roth, making it his best opening ever, overall it was a dismal weekend at the B.O. Fahrenheit 11/9, Life Itself and Assassination Nation had soft openings ($3.1 million, $2.1 million and $1.1 million, respectively).
Paul Feig’s Favor, starring Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, has earned $32.56 total, with just a 35% drop from its debut. Warner Bros. and New Line’s The Nun, meanwhile, plummeted 44% this weekend, with a $10.2 million take for a total of $100 million total.
