Robert De Niro has made a point of publicizing his disdain for President Donald Trump. Now, the FBI reports that he has become the target of a suspicious package. De Niro is just one in a string of Democrats who have reportedly received pipe bombs in the mail.
The suspicious package was removed on Thursday morning by police from 375 Greenwich Street in Manhattan, home to his production company Tribeca Enterprises and restaurant, Tribeca Grill.
Like the previous packages sent to President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, George Soros and others, the return address is listed as Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
"A suspicious package was received. We called the police. They took it out and went through all safety procedures" a statement released by Tribeca Enterprises reads. "It was addressed to Robert De Niro and is similar packaging to the others. It is an open investigation. Everyone is safe and the building is open."
DE NIRO ON TRUMP
Speaking at the Tony Awards in June, De Niro said "I'm gonna say one thing: f*** Trump! It's no longer 'down with Trump,' it's 'f*** Trump!' "
In January at the National Board of Review Awards, he said: "This f***ing idiot is the president. It's the Emperor's New Clothes — the guy is a f***ing fool."
While promoting HBO’s The Wizard of Lies, he told USA Today: "What amazes me is that (Donald Trump is) such a bad con artist. Bernie Madoff was a guy who was low-key. I make no excuse for him: what he did was horrible and awful; monstrous. But Trump is in your face every day doing something that is absolutely what word can I use? He’s just a slob. He’s a pig."
Celebrities, including Kathy Griffith and Michael Moore, took to Twitter to support De Niro and caution fans against silence through fear.
