“Grey’s Anatomy” Star Justin Chambers Exits Series After 15 Years
After 15 seasons playing Dr. Alex Karev in the TV show Grey’s Anatomy, actor Justin Chambers has left the show, Variety reports. In fact, Chambers’ departure has already happened, without the usual dramatic fanfare that these kinds of exits usually produce. ABC confirmed that the episode that aired on November 14 was Chambers’ last. In that episode, Dr. Karev returned home to care for his ailing mom. “There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years,” Chambers said in a statement. “For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.” During his time on the show, Chambers’ character Karev rose from surgical intern, then resident, and finally a pediatric surgeon at the at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital. Grey’s Anatomy is currently in its 16th season, and is the longest-running primetime drama in ABC history.
