Goat “Mayor” of Vermont Town Faces Election Challenge From Police Dog
The city of Fair Haven, Vermont, will hold another symbolic election in March to choose its next pet mayor, UPI reports. The current mayor, a 4-year-old Nubian goat named Lincoln, won a close election last year by only 3 votes. This year, Lincoln faces a stiff challenge from a K-9 police dog named Sammie. The German shepherd is trained in tracking for the Fair Haven Police Department, and her handler Sgt. Dale Kerber said he just learned about her political aspirations. “I actually found out about it from one of the kids at the grade school,” Kerber told WABC-TV. “I hadn’t been told about it, my K-9 partner, her hat had been thrown into the ring.” The city charges $1 to cast a ballot, with proceeds going towards building a new playground.
