‘GLASS’ TOPS BOX OFFICE WITH $47M

M. Night Shyamalan snagged his fifth No. 1 with Glass, bringing in $40.6 million in ticket sales. Over the long Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, Universal Pictures predicts Glass would bring in a total of $47 million.

Observers say poor reviews may have dampened enthusiasm for the final entry in the hit trilogy, launched by 2000’s Unbreakable, then followed up with 2017’s Split. Still, this is the third-best MLK weekend opening ever, behind only American Sniper and Ride Along.

Kevin Hart, Bryan Cranston and Nicole Kidman’s The Upside held onto second place in its second week out, with $15.7 million.
