Death Cab For Cutie Announce “The Blue EP,” Share “Kids In ’99”

Death Cab for Cutie announced on Tuesday The Blue EP and unveiled a new single called “Kids in ’99.” Billboard reports that the indie-rock track tells the story of the three children who lost their lives in the 1999 Olympic Pipeline explosion in Bellingham, Washington, with frontman Ben Gibbard singing, “Thinking ’bout those kids, thinking ’bout those kids back in ’99/ Gas leaking in the creek/ A firecracker then a spark/ In a moment they were gone.” “The Olympic Pipeline explosion in 1999 was a tragedy that really affected me while we were living in Bellingham,” Gibbard says in a statement about the song. “After all these years I felt it was worthy of its own folk song.” The Blue EP is set for released on September 6.
