An award-winning sound mixer has died after falling from a balcony on the set of a Tom Hanks film. James Emswiller won an Emmy Award in 2015 and appears to have fallen during a break in shooting on the set of a biopic about Fred Rogers, aka Mr. Rogers, the iconic children's programmer who hosted Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood from 1968-2001.

Police say Emswiller, 61, "was alone on the balcony taking a cigarette break when he may have suffered a medical emergency resulting in his fall from the balcony."

No foul play is suspected and multiple reports cite the strong possibility that he suffered a heart attack before he fell. Emswiller previously worked on The Avengers and The Fault in Our Stars.

Hanks, who plays Rogers, was reportedly on the set at the time of the accident. Filming of the provisionally titled You Are My Friend has been halted while the fall is investigated. The film is set to hit theaters in October of next year.

Sony Pictures, which is set to release the film, said in a statement, "This is a devastating tragedy and the studio is investigating the matter. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jim’s loved ones, friends, and colleagues."

SOUTH PARK TARGETS ROSEANNE BARR, BRETT KAVANAUGH, THE SIMPSONS: This week’s episode of Comedy Central's South Park took no prisoners. The show, known for its of-the-moment take on social issues, threw shade at Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court despite allegations of assault against him, Roseanne Barr and The Simpsons. Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo did some of the honors by posting offensive tweets a la Barr that eventually got him fired. Then the show ended featuring The Simpson’s character Apu—who has been derided as a racist stereotype—and a credit sequence with the hashtag #cancelthesimpsons.

HOW THE CONNERS PLAN TO HONOR ROSEANNE BARR: The creative team behind The Conners knows it has a problem: the ABC spinoff of the wildly successful and canceled Roseanne has to hold onto the show’s old audience (many of whom are loyal to the ousted star), without alienating people who were offended by the racist tweet that got her fired. So how will her absence be handled? "We want people to watch the show and see what happens and how we wrote Roseanne off," executive producer Bruce Rasmussen told Variety. "You don't want to be flip about how you do this. A lot of people cared about that character and it's separate from whatever feelings they had about the person and her political views and the things she said. We wanted to honor that character. People can have their opinions after that." The Conners premieres Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

HAILEE STEINFELD TO HOST MTV EMAs: The Oscar-nominated Hailee Steinfeld will host this year’s MTV EMAs on November 4th. She will also perform. This year’s party kicks off in Bilbao, Spain. "The EMAs are a show where anything can happen," said Steinfeld. "I can’t wait to host a night filled with incredible artists, performances, some surprises of my own – let’s do this, Bilbao!"

STEVE CARELL SAYS THE OFFICE REVIVAL WON’T HAPPEN: But not for the reason you may think. Steve Carell says Michael Scott’s sense of humor just wouldn’t fly today. He tells Esquire: "Because The Office is on Netflix and replaying, a lot more people have seen it recently. And I think because of that there's been a resurgence in interest in the show, and talk about bringing it back. But apart from the fact that I just don't think that's a good idea, it might be impossible to do that show today and have people accept it the way it was accepted 10 years ago. The climate's different." He notes that Michael Scott’s entire character is "predicated on inappropriate behavior."

Riverdale star Camila Mendes is finally in a happier place after struggling for years with bulimia. Mendes opens up to Shape for the magazine’s November cover story, and explains why she devotes time to discussing her recovery on social media.

The 24-year-old says: "I realized that I have this platform, and young women and men who look up to me, and there is a tremendous power to do something positive with it. It was definitely a very vulnerable thing to put that out there to almost 12 million people on social media. But that’s who I am. That’s me being authentically myself."

Mendes says she started struggling with bulimia in high school, explaining that she used to see food—especially carbs—as the enemy.

"I was so scared of carbs that I wouldn’t let myself eat bread or rice ever. I’d go a week without eating them, then I would binge on them, and that would make me want to purge," Mendes says. "If I ate a sweet, I would be like, ‘Oh my God, I’m not going to eat for five hours now.’ I was always punishing myself. I was even anxious about healthy food: Did I eat too much of the avocado? Did I have too many fats for one day? I was consumed with the details of what I was eating, and I always felt as if I was doing something wrong."

After receiving treatment through a therapist and recruiting a nutritionist, she says it’s gotten better, but she still has tough days.

"The voices in my head never completely go away. They’re just way quieter now."

She adds: "My nutritionist completely cured my fear of carbs. She was like, ‘You need a balanced amount of good, healthy carbs in your life. Have a piece of toast in the morning; have some quinoa at lunch. When you’re eating a little of them all the time, you won’t have this crazy urge to binge. You won’t be scared of carbs anymore because you’re going to realize that eating them isn’t going to make you gain weight.'"

Mendes also gave a shout out to the body positivity community, in which she includes Rihanna. "This body-positivity movement we’re having right now is so amazing, and it’s helping me so much. I’m seeing all these people who I look up to, like Rihanna, open up about their weight fluctuations and loving themselves the way they are. That makes me love myself more too," she says.

The criminal case against disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein was dealt a serious setback Thursday. Prosecutors representing the Manhattan District Attorney’s office dropped one of the six charges against him.

Prosecutor Joan Illuzzi-Orbon told a judge Thursday that the D.A. was dropping the charge connected to one of his three court accusers, Lucia Evans. She was one of the first of 80+ women to come forward with allegations against Weinstein, but only three's cases have moved forward to trial. In an article in The New Yorker published a year ago Wednesday, Evans first shared her story. In the article, she said he’d forced her to perform oral sex on him in 2004.

But in a letter to the defense unsealed in court on Thursday, it appears there is a counter-narrative and that Evans’ interaction with Weinstein appears to have been consensual.

The letter reads: "According to the Witness...the Complainant Evans told the Witness that...the Complainant had gone to the defendant's office, where the Defendant told her, in substance, that he would arrange for the Complainant to receive an acting job if she agreed to perform oral sex upon him. According to the Witness, the Complainant told her that she thereupon performed oral sex on the defendant."

Weinstein’s legal team, led by Benjamin Brafman, accused Evans of committing perjury when she testified before a grand jury that Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex.

"Sexual assault is a serious crime but falsely accusing someone of sexual assault is also a serious crime," Brafman said outside of the courtroom, according to ABC.

Brafman said Evans’ counter-narrative about her account was uncovered by a fact-checker at The New Yorker. He plans to subpoena the magazine.

Brafman also argued that the case is "permanently and irreparably damaged" by the development, and noted that he plans to call for a dismissal.

A lawyer for Evans, meanwhile, said she is disappointed that the D.A. "abandoned" her.

"Let me be clear: the decision to throw away my client's sexual assault charges says nothing about Weinstein's guilt or innocence. Nor does it reflect on Lucia's consistent allegation that she was sexually assaulted with force by Harvey Weinstein," said attorney Carrie Goldberg. "It only speaks volumes about the Manhattan DA's office and its mishandling of my client's case."

Weinstein has pleaded not guilty to all six charges and remains free on $1 million bail.

ALYSSA MILANO SOUNDS OFF ON KAVANAUGH: Alyssa Milano penned a guest column for Variety Tuesday, in which she laid out her feelings about the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanugh, despite the sexual assault allegations leveled against him. "Despite the deep and disturbing questions about Judge Kavanaugh, he was confirmed on Oct. 6. This continues to institutionalize sexual violence while setting the stage to remove many of the rights that generations of women who came before have won in hard-fought battle after battle. And yet, I do have hope." She predicts that "In 2018, the lasting legacy of these two men President Trump and Kavanaugh will be this: a nation of engaged, voting, empowered and elected women who will shape policy in spite of these two men and the 11 Republican white men on the Judiciary Committee."

Meghan Markle’s family drama just won’t dissipate. The latest has Duchess of Sussex’s nephew Tyler Dooley, 25, cast in MTV’s The Royal World.

Tyler is the son of Meghan’s estranged half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr. The show is set to premiere on November 7th. The unscripted series follows the lives of young royals, aristocrats (and wannabes) as they come together to live in the English countryside and have their every moment filmed.

Tyler, the show admits: "isn’t royal, just your average kinda guy." In the trailer, Tyler admits his only connection is "my aunty Meghan."

Tyler doesn’t just leverage his "aunty" for reality TV fame, he has also uses the connection to highlight his marijuana dispensary in Oregon. It’s called Royally Grown, and he offers one strain called Meghan Sparkle, which his site describes as "extremely potent."

Meanwhile, her estranged half-sister Samantha isn’t taking "no" for an answer. Despite being denied entry at Kensington Palace, the 54-year-old tells the Daily Mail that she won’t give up on getting herself and her father Thomas royally recognized.

"I want her to do the right thing: Acknowledge my dad for primarily raising her and making her everything she is. She knows that he's awesome!"

You know he's been there for you more than anyone. So, don't believe this public monster and misperception that he's a 'sperm donor dad' trying to be involved all of a sudden."

On a positive note, Meghan seems to be getting along just fine with the family she married into. According to reports, Princess Eugenie turned to Meghan for help planning her October 12th wedding to Jack Brooksbank.

TIFFANY HADDISH SPEAKS ON PAY PARITY, AWARDS SHOWS: In a profile in Variety, Tiffany Haddish sounded off on several issues. On pay parity between genders, she says she wants women to talk to each other: "I think the reason why, a lot times, we don’t get paid the same as men do is because we don’t talk about it. I think we do need to talk about it because I sure get in there and I’m like, ‘Hey, Kate Hudson. How much do they pay you for that? What kind of perks do you get for that?’" Haddish also thinks awards are over-rated: "I didn’t get a check with it. When people really want those Oscars so bad and those Emmys and everything so bad, I thought it was because they give you a check. Like they come out with the award and they hand you a check! I’ve been watching sports and NASCAR, horse races, championships, football games, they get a trophy, a ring, and a bonus check. But when you win an Emmy, they give you a gift bag of a bunch of things that you probably not going to really use. I like the trophy a lot, don’t get me wrong, but they could have put a check in there!"

Pirates of the Caribbean star Keira Knightley is slamming Kate Middleton’s glam post-birth glow. The 33-year-old shares her thoughts in a graphic essay included in Scarlett Curtis’ book Feminists Don’t Wear Pink (And Other Lies), dedicating it to her 3-year-old daughter Edie.

The essay, titled "The Weaker Sex," describes the Duchess of Cambridge’s post-birth glamour shot: "She was out of hospital seven hours later with her face made up and high heels on. The face the world wants to see. Hide. Hide our pain, our bodies splitting, our breasts leaking, our hormones raging. Look beautiful, look stylish, don't show your battleground, Kate."

Middleton has famously emerged after giving birth to her three children looking fresh as a daisy.

"Seven hours after your fight with life and death, seven hours after your body breaks open, and bloody, screaming life comes out. Don't show. Don't tell," Knightley writes. "Stand there with your girl and be shot by a pack of male photographers. This stuff is easy. It happens every day. What's the big deal? So does death, you s--- heads, but you don't have to pretend that's easy."

Knightley says that in contrast, she "wore a hospital gown with paper pants on."

The Colette star also shared graphic physical details of the wear and tear of childbirth. "My vagina split. You came out with your eyes open. Arms up in the air. Screaming," she writes. "They put you on to me, covered in blood, vernix, your head misshapen from the birth canal. Pulsating, gasping, screaming."

She adds that what she remembers most from the process of giving birth is the "vomit, the blood, the stitches."

Say what? Fans are scratching their heads over a series of cryptic quotes Keeping Up With the Kardashians star Khloe has been posting.

One recent Instagram Story post read: "If you've been brutally broken but still have the courage to be gentle to other living beings, then you're a badass with a heart of an angel."

No context. Uh … U OK?

Three days prior, she posted in Stories: "Don’t ever feel bad for making a decision about your own life that upsets other people. You are not responsible for their happiness. You’re responsible for your own happiness. Anyone who wants you to live in misery for their happiness should not be in your life to begin with."

Some say the messages are an oblique reference to drama with her boyfriend Tristan Thompson (who, followers of the Kardashians will recall, was videotaped cheating on her during the last weeks before she gave birth to their baby True), and who was recently photographed leaving a club with a few women.

Later, reports emerged that he was getting touch-feely with a girl at the club. Neither Khloe nor Tristan have publicly addressed the rumors.

Representatives for Drew Barrymore are claiming that she "did not participate" in a celebrity profile published in an EgyptAir inflight magazine. The piece drew a firestorm of attention for a variety of perceived offenses from the shoddy grammar of the article itself to insensitive observations allegedly made by both the author and the subject.

Reads one paragraph: "Despite being unstable in her relationships most of her life, despite the several unsuccessful marriages and despite the busy life of stardom that dominated her life for several years; the beautiful American Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore has recently decided to temporary sic take an unlimited vacation to play her most crucial role as a mother."

But wait, there’s more. The piece continues: "Psychologists believe that her behavior is only natural since she lacked the male role model in her life after her parents’ divorce when she was only 9 years. Ever since that time, she has been subconsciously seeking attention and care from a male figure; but unfortunately things do not always go as planned and she has not yet succeeded in any relationship for various reasons."

Yikes! But then Barrymore herself gets quoted saying: "I cannot deny that women made a great achievement over the past century, there is significant progress recorded by people who study women status throughout history." Another comment about parenting reads: "I do not intentionally follow certain parenting methods with my daughters and I do not consult with psychologists... I focus on nurturing their minds as well as their small bodies."

Did she actually say that? NOPE, her rep screams. In a statement to HuffPo, Barrymore’s team kept it simple, saying that she "did not participate," and that they’re working with the airline PR team to rectify the error.

The BBC has reps on record saying she didn’t "technically... sit down with EgyptAir for an interview," but that the quotes were drawn from one such press conference.

EgyptAir stood by the piece on Twitter, writing: "This a professional magazine interview conducted by Dr. Aida Tekla Former president of the HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association) and one of the voting members of the Golden Globes."

Meanwhile, the HFPA says it's investigating. "We are aware that an article under the byline of our member Dr. Aida Takla-O’Reilly regarding Drew Barrymore, published in EgyptAir’s Horus magazine, has come into question," the H.F.P.A. said. "Ms. Barrymore has been interviewed by H.F.P.A. members many times and we always appreciate her willingness to speak to us. As an organization comprised of journalists, the H.F.P.A. expects its members to uphold the highest degree of integrity in their journalistic activities. Based on our preliminary investigation, we understand that parts of the article in question were not written by Dr. Takla-O’Reilly and that other portions of the article may have come from other sources. We regret any distress caused to Ms. Barrymore by this article."

If the story sounds familiar, that’s because we’ve heard it before. Dueling exes Amber Heard and Johnny Depp continue to duke it on in the press, despite having settled their divorce in 2017.

The latest controversy erupted over Depp’s interview in British GQ. In it, he expressed frustration over being seen as an abuser. (Heard famously accused Depp of psychological and physical abuse.)

He added that the claims harmed his reputation, turning him from "Cinderella to Quasimodo" in the eyes of Hollywood. "I could feel people look at me differently, because of the accusations towards you. And then people start putting things in magazines: 'He's insane. He needs to take a sanity test…' You know, ludicrous stuff." He added, "Ultimately, the truth will come out in all of this..."

Heard’s team hit back, saying: "It is outrageous that GQ never spoke to any of the multiple witnesses to Mr. Depp's physical abuse of Ms. Heard prior to publishing its article." A rep added: "If GQ had done even a basic investigation into Mr. Depp's claims, it would have quickly realized that his statements are entirely untrue. Mr. Depp has blatantly disregarded the parties' confidentiality agreement and yet has refused to allow Ms. Heard to respond to his baseless allegations, despite repeated requests that she be allowed to do so. Mr. Depp is shamefully continuing his psychological abuse of Ms. Heard, who has attempted to put a very painful part of her life firmly in her past. One need only look at the physical evidence to draw the proper conclusion."

On Thursday, his attorney told E! that Depp was "simply defending himself against Ms. Heard's lingering false abuse accusations."

Depp’s attorney Adam Waldman presseds on, claiming that he is in fact the abuse victim. "Next month, we will be submitting clear evidence of the violence committed serially against him by Ms. Heard and the serious injuries that he suffered. We will also submit overwhelming evidence that Ms. Heard faked the abuse allegations against Mr. Depp."
