President Donald Trump launched a Twitter war Sunday night against John Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen, and the pair returned his fire, much to Twitter's bemusement.

Trump began by slamming the Oscar-winning Legend over his participation in a town hall filmed inside New York's Sing Sing prison, and aired on MSNBC. The special, hosted by NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt, focused on prison reform.

The special did not mention the First Step Act, which Trump signed into law in December. The Act gives nonviolent inmates the ability to shorten their sentences.

Trump tweeted his displeasure, calling Legend "boring" and Teigen "filthy mouthed."

Also: "When all of the people pushing so hard for Criminal Justice Reform were unable to come even close to getting it done, they came to me as a group and asked for my help. I got it done with a group of Senators & others who would never have gone for it. Obama couldn't come close....

And: "....the importance or passage of Criminal Justice Reform. They only talk about the minor players, or people that had nothing to do with it...And the people that so desperately sought my help when everyone else had failed, all they talk about now is Impeaching President Trump!"

Legend and Teigen appeared to be delighted to have the opportunity to engage.

Legend called on Trump's wife for help. He wrote: "Imagine being president of a whole country and spending your Sunday night hate-watching MSNBC hoping somebody--ANYBODY--will praise you. Melania, please praise this man. He needs you."

Teigen shared: "The absolute best part of his tweet is I literally didn't speak in the special, nor was I mentioned. I'm cackling at the pointless addition of me."

Their tweet storm went viral, with #TeamChrissy and #FilthyMouthedWife trending.

Director Ava DuVernay posted a GIF of a young girl being hyped up by her friend with the caption, "Me walking around with @chrissyteigen from now on," while actress Busy Phillips asked, "I don't understand anything anymore is this normal?"

Dwayne Johnson appeared on the premiere episode of NBC's The Kelly Clarkson Show. He appeared in Kevin Hart's place, who was unable to show due to the horrendous crash he was in over Labor Day Weekend. Hart had surgery on his back after fracturing it in three places, but Johnson downplayed any major issues.

Clarkson and Johnson discuss Hart's health: "Everything is good with him, right? Everything is good, I spoke with Kevin, I actually refer to him as my son. I connected with him today. And you know what? These things happen in life and thankfully he was strapped in nicely to his car seat.

To appear on the show in his Jumanji co-star Hart's place, Johnson had to leave his honeymoon early.

"I love the guy, he's one of my best friends," Johnson said. "And honestly, I mean, thank God, it could've been a lot worse. So, he's a lucky man, and he knows it too. I wish him the best and a speedy recovery and I'm gonna see him soon."

Meanwhile, he is also lashing out at haters on social media, including former co-star Tyrese, who long questioned his ability to successfully spin off the Fast & Furious franchise in Hobbs & Shaw. He posted a screenshot of a Deadline story headlines: "Hobbs & Shaw Decks $700M+ At Global Box Office, Rocks Records For F&F Franchise."

He captioned the post, "Assassins quietly play chess loud clowns play checkers. Thank you audiences worldwide for this incredible support and massive win. Very cool and we're grateful for the love #hardestworkersintheroom #hungryhumble #nocandyass"

Woody Allen is speaking out after Scarlett Johansson defended him and his adoptive daughter, Dylan Farrow, slammed him. Long story short, ScarJo came out swinging for Allen in The Hollywood Reporter, saying she loves him, would work with him "anytime" and believes his side of the story, and implying in the process that she does not believe Farrow's claims that he molested her when she was a child. Allen has long denied the claims.

Farrow responded tersely on Twitter, saying the Johansson is a hypocrite for supporting the #MeToo movement, which urges followers to "always" believe alleged victims.

Now, Allen is speaking out. He is addressing the backlash he's faced and why he should be a poster boy for #MeToo, instead of its whipping boy.

"I've worked with hundreds of actresses and not one of them has ever complained about me, not a single complaint. I've worked with, employed women in the top capacity, in every capacity, for years and we've always paid them exactly the equal of men," he says in an interview with France24. "I've done everything that the #MeToo movement would love to achieve."

His latest film, Rainy Day in New York, was shelved by Amazon in the U.S., but opened at the Deauville Film Festival in France Friday. Several stars, including Timothee Chalamet and Rebecca Hall, who are featured in Rainy Day, have expressed regret over working with him in the past, and said they won't work with him again in the future.

Still, Allen believes there's a chance it will be released in the U.S.: "To me the movie is being released all over the world," he said. "If people enjoy the movie, I think it will eventually be released in the U.S."

Either way, the 83-year-old says he's fine: "I couldn't care less. I've never worked in Hollywood. I've always worked in New York and it doesn't matter to me for a second. If tomorrow nobody would finance my films and nobody would finance my theater plays or nobody would publish my books, I'd still get up and write because that's what I do. So I will always work. What happens to it commercially is another matter."

CONSTANCE WU TALKS HUSTLERS: Constance Wu is opening up about Hustlers, based on the real story of Roselyn Keo. She tells Deadline: "I was looking to play a character who was really lonely, because I think loneliness is pervasive in our culture right now. I think it was just an interesting role to play. The way that Destiny manifests her loneliness at first is by saying, ‘I don't want to need anybody, I want to be independent,' when really, she does want friends and wants people to love her. So that's really what drew me to it." She continued: "Strippers are often prejudged based on their occupations, and what's cool about this movie is that we explore the human stories behind this preconceived notion of what an occupation is. When you explore somebody's human story, you understand why they might make the choices they make." Hustlers opens September 13th.

Felicity Huffman has pleaded guilty to paying $15,000 to get her daughter's SAT scores boosted and apologized for her role in the college admissions scandal. In exchange for the plea deal, prosecutors want her to serve one month in prison and pay a $20,000 fine.

Huffman's legal team filed a 161-page legal memo asking the judge to give her a year probation and 250 hours of community service. Included in the memo is a personal picture of Huffman, including her life at home with daughters Sophia Macy and Georgia Macy, and the "utter shame" she feels at her participation in the scheme.

"I find Motherhood bewildering," she admitted in her letter.

"In my desperation to be a good mother I talked myself into believing that all I was doing was giving my daughter a fair shot. My own fears and lack of confidence, combined with a daughter who has learning disabilities often made me insecure and feel highly anxious from the beginning."

She also shared her daughter Sophia's horror at her behavior: "When my daughter looked at me and asked me with tears streaming down her face, 'Why didn't you believe in me? Why didn't you think I could do it on my own?' I had no adequate answer for her. I could only saw, 'I am sorry. I was frightened and I was stupid.' In my blind panic, I have done the exact thing that I was desperate to avoid. I have compromised my daughter's future, the wholeness of my family and my own integrity."

Her husband, William H. Macy and co-star Eva Longoria also testified to Huffman's character.

"Motherhood has, from the very beginning, frightened Felicity and she has not carried being a mom easily. She's struggled to find a balance between what the experts say, and her common sense," Huffman said, adding that the scandal has taken a toll on their daughters, who are now seeing a "wonderful family therapist."

"To be sure Felicity's relationship with her daughters exploded . . . rebuilding that relationship will be a long process," he wrote, saying Sophia still has "nightmares" of "FBI agents waking her that morning with guns drawn."

Huffman's sentencing is scheduled for September 13th.

Renee Zellweger has read the headlines about her looks. The Oscar-winner, who next can be seen in a Judy Garland biopic (Judy), sat down with New York Magazine to discuss here six-year break from the spotlight and all of those plastic surgery rumors.

The 50-year-old says she left Hollywood for six years staring in 2010 because: "I wasn't healthy. I wasn't taking care of myself. I was the last thing on my list of priorities. My therapist recognized that I spent 99 percent of my life as the public persona and just a microscopic crumb of a fraction in my real life. I needed to not have something to do all the time, to not know what I'm going to be doing for the next two years in advance. I wanted to allow for some accidents. There had to be some quiet for the ideas to slip in."

Mid-break, she sparked plastic surgery rumors after attending a red carpet event. Of the whispers she says:"Well, because there's a value judgment that's placed on us. As if it somehow is a reflection of your character — whether you're a good person or a weak person or an authentic person."

"And the implication that I somehow needed to change what was going on because it wasn't working," Zellweger continues. "That makes me sad. I don't look at beauty in that way. And I don't think of myself in that way. I like my weird quirkiness, my off-kilter mix of things. It enables me to do what I do. I don't want to be something else."

Meanwhile, it seems the industry is here for her return. Critics are giving her rave reviews for her portrayal of Judy Garland. The Hollywood Reporter's Scott Feinberg wrote that she "is poised to garner the fourth Oscar nomination of her career."

Judy opens September 27th.

When news broke that Robert Pattinson had been cast as Batman, fans rejoiced. But the actor tells Variety that he was furious, and was worried that the rumor mill had blown his deal.

He said: "When that thing leaked, I was f***ing furious. Everyone was so upset. Everyone was panicking from my team. I sort of thought that had blown up the whole thing."

Pattinson added: "It was terrifying. I was like, 'Oh f***! Does that screw me because they are so intent on secrecy?'"

Pattinson said he took to Google to see if there were rumors of the studio backing down, but thankfully, it's now official: he will play Batman in Matt Reeves' rendition of the classic.

Pattinson said he grew up watching the caped crusader: "When I was a kid, it was the only outfit that I had," and admitting to attempting to get multiple meetings with Reeves before finally succeeding.

He also said the grown-up batsuit is different than the kiddo version: "You do feel very powerful immediately. And it's pretty astonishing, something that is incredibly difficult to get into, so the ritual of getting into it is pretty humiliating. You've got five people trying to shove you into something. Once you've got it on, it's like, ‘Yeah, I feel strong, I feel tough, even though I had to have someone squeezing my butt cheeks into the legs.'"

Pattinson also opened up about an unexpected theme throughout his film career: "I keep masturbating. In the last three or four movies, I've got a masturbation scene. I did it in High Life. I did it in Damsel. And The Devil All the Time. I only realized when I did it the fourth time."

Meghan Markle's dad Thomas Markle is talking to the press again, spreading tales of woe that include his anger over never actually meeting her husband Prince Harry in person and being totally excised from her life since she joined the royal family, according to The Sun.

A source says that Thomas' constant drama has forced her to cut ties with him. (Quick refresher: he reportedly posed for photographs for paparazzi in a bid to make himself look better in the lead-up to Harry and Meghan's 2018 wedding, then skipped out on walking her down the aisle at the last minute, complaining bitterly the whole time about his treatment at the hands of Meghan and the royals).

An insider tells The Sun: "It's a terribly sad situation but Meghan has made the very difficult decision that she doesn't have an active relationship with her father any more. This was actually a decision she made some time ago and it is something she's now coming to terms with. It's obviously heart-breaking for her but she has to protect herself, her husband and her son. Thomas hasn't met Harry and it's unlikely he'll meet Archie either."

This gem dropped after Thomas dragged Meghan and Harry in a long interview in the Daily Mail. He said: "There was never any problem between Meghan and me until recently. I've stayed quiet because Meghan was pregnant with Archie but I'm speaking out now because they and their PR people are continuing to ghost me out of her life...Of course I'm disappointed not to see Archie. I had hoped becoming a mother would mellow Meghan and she would reach out."

Stars from the hit NBC series Will and Grace are furious about an Emmy week fundraiser for President Donald Trump, and they shared their displeasure on social media, calling on media who cover the event to name and shame supporters.

"Please print a list of all attendees please. The public has a right to know," Debra Messing tweeted.

Eric McCormack then called for the outing of Trump supporters: "Kindly report on everyone attending this event, so the rest of us can be clear about who we don't wanna work with. Thx."

They faced an avalanche of critics on social media, including some from Trump himself. "I have not forgotten that when it was announced that I was going to do The Apprentice, and when it then became a big hit, helping NBC's failed lineup greatly, @DebraMessing came up to me at an Upfront & profusely thanked me, even calling me 'Sir.' How times have changed!," the president posted on his Twitter account.

Some critics called out Messing's "appalling" stereotypes about mental illness in some tweets in which she compared Trump's supporters to those suffering from mental illness. One wrote: "It is truly appalling that any educated person would support a message that stereotypes an entire population that actually struggle with mental illness. Unless you're a mental health professional that is qualified to make such a statement, I suggest that you stick to your day job".

While others likened their call for donor names to a dictatorship: "You sound like a few dictators who put their 'enemies' on a list."

Some fans supported their demands and applauded their "bravery."

The fundraiser is set for September 17th; the Hollywood venue and attendees are yet unknown. It will be hosted by Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, RNC co-chairman Tommy Hicks Jr., campaign manager Brad Parscale and Trump Victory finance chairman Todd Ricketts.

Constance Wu does not want to be known for her Twitter meltdown following the news that her successful ABC show was renewed, but she admits that her behavior was … notable.

As many will remember, the Fresh Off the Boat star caused a media tsunami when she tweeted "So upset right now that I'm literally crying. Ugh. F—k. F--king hell," upon learning of the show's renewal. While she attempted to clarify the comments, no one really bought it, and an avalanche of "she's a handful and a drama queen" stories descended.

Now, Wu is addressing what she dubs the "fiasco" in an interview with The Los Angeles Times.

Wu explains: "I had this moment of heat where I got upset because I had to give up a job I had been looking forward to and had been chasing for a while. It was moving to me how many people from the show reached out to me, and even on set...to say, ‘Just so you know, we love you and we know who you are, and you didn't deserve any of that stuff.' Because they also know that I'm an actress—I can be dramatic."

She continues: "I'm dramatic. I'm emotional. But they also know that that doesn't represent me because they have a hundred episodes of behavior that proves otherwise."

Wu also maintains that she learned important lessons from the dust-up. She says: "I'm not beating myself up for it, because I know me. But I don't think I realized that people were paying so much attention to my Twitter. I like that people are expressing their feelings about it, because it improved my awareness of what it means to be a...public figure. I've had a back and forth about it. It's the line between being a role model, but also authenticity."

Plus, no one's perfect (no matter what Instagram may tell you): "I think a lot of why people are lonely in this world is because they go through these Instagram feeds and everybody's life is perfect. Nobody trips up. And sometimes I think, might it be good to see our heroes mess up a little bit and not always be perfect?"

Wu can next be seen Hustlers, out September 13th. She co-stars with Jennifer Lopez and Keke Palmer.

Kerry Washington is initiating a new way to keep in touch with her fans. While many celebs (Chrissy Teigen, Kim Kardashian) are known and loved for engaging with their fans on social media, few have waded out among the sweaty hordes and given fans carte blanche access to their person. And yes, as one might suspect, there's also a catch.

Scandal star Washington took the bold step on Thursday of sharing her number, explaining in her message that she missed her fans: "Hi, you guys, so you know how private I am but I am going to do something crazy. I am going to give you my phone number, which I know sounds insane. You know, I posted about this last week. I've been missing that TGIT love. We used to come together every Thursday night at the same time and the same place. I would know where you were and you would know where I was and we would talk about stuff that really mattered to us and kind of be in a community together and I want to bring some of that back because I miss you guys."

She added that social media is "amazing" it can sometimes be hard to "sift through and really connect with the people who matter to you most."

"So, I'm giving you my number it's 718-400-7118, shout-out to the boogie down Bronx, and I really want you to text me," she told her social media followers. "I want you to ask me questions, I'm going to send links like special sneak peaks."

"You guys are going to be the people I am closest to in terms of trading information, so text me," Washington concluded her video. "Really, really text me."

While some fans responded that they were excited to cement their "BFF" status, others smelled a rat. "Well, I just texted you. Hopefully this leads to fun times. No way this is your real number though."

And yes, as many suspected, it's a marketing ploy .When you text her, you get a link and an auto-response that reads, "(H)ey it's Kerry! Real quick — click this link & sign up so I can add you to my contacts and respond to you directly. Can't wait to hear from you!"

The link takes you to a mobile-access-only form at Community.com where you're asked to provide your name, birthday, city, gender identity and email, though that last bit is optional. And chances are, you'll be hearing from her very soon.
