Camila Cabello Apologizes After Racist Posts From Her Teen Years Resurface

Grammy-nominated pop singer Camila Cabello apologized Wednesday after racist posts she shared on Tumblr between 2012 and 2013 resurfaced online. BuzzFeed reports that Cabello reblogged several xenophobic and racist Tumblr posts mocking black, Asian, and Mexican people. Many of them contained the n-word, and in at least one instance, she seemingly used the slur in an original post she wrote herself. The now-22-year-old Cabello says she’s sorry for the offensive and hurtful words. “When I was younger, I used language that I’m deeply ashamed of and will regret forever,” Cabello shared in a lengthy social media post. “I was uneducated and ignorant and once I became aware of the history and the weight and the true meaning behind this horrible and hurtful language, I was deeply embarrassed I ever used it.” The AP reports that the singer, who released a new album earlier this month, says she’ll use her platform to “speak out about injustice and inequality.”
