Bebe Rexha and Kane Brown both promoted increasing diversity in the music industry while accepting awards at the Music Biz Awards in Nashville on Tuesday. Variety reports both singers received Breakthrough Artist Awards. In her speech, Rexha received cheers when she said, “We need more women in the music business that are executives.” After citing statistics about female executives making 30 percent less than males, Rexha added, “That needs to change. I will be letting everybody in this room know that one day, I will be running one of the biggest record labels.” Brown noted on the red carpet that, “When you go to my shows, everybody looks different–they don’t look like they’re supposed to be in the crowd, so it’s a cool feeling.” During his speech, the biracial artist thanked “everybody in this room that ever gave me a chance and is opening doors for other people who don’t think they belong in country music.”
