Buckle up! Asia Argento has informed Rose McGowan (via Twitter, natch) that she is suing her for "substantial damages" for "false statements" she made against her last month.
On Tuesday, the 42-year-old Italian star tweeted: "To @rosemcgowan. The 24hr deadline given to retract your recent false statements about me has now passed. I must inform you & @raindovemodel that I’ve instructed lawyer Mishcon de Reya to seek substantial damages for deception, fraud, coercion and libel. You will hear from them shortly," the tweet read.
This comes after her tweet issued 24 hours before threatening legal action. On Monday, Argento took to Twitter to threaten legal action against McGowan, claiming her lengthy statement on Twitter last month was filled with "horrendous lies." She gave the star 24 hours to retract her claims, but McGowan never responded.
The former BFFs had a serious falling out after the New York Times reported that Jimmy Bennett claimed Argento sexually assaulted him when he was 17 and she was 37. Argento and McGowan originally collaborated in their fight against accused rapist Harvey Weinstein, and together, helped create and strengthen the #MeToo movement. But it all came crashing down after misconduct allegations against Argento herself were revealed.
In August, McGowan and her gender nonconforming partner Dove denounced Argento and claimed that Argento previously admitted to having sex with Bennett in text messages sent to them. (Argento denied ever sleeping with Bennett in the aftermath of the accusations).
