Police are looking into a tip that Empire actor was seen in an elevator of his apartment building with the two brothers who were later arrested and questioned about attacking him on January 29th, according to reports.
The brothers were released without charges, and now are reportedly cooperating with police. Some reports in recent days have indicated that members of the Chicago Police Department suspect Smollett may have hired the men to stage an attack.
On Tuesday, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told the AP that Ola and Abel Osundairo were seen with Smollett in his building the night of attack.
"We sent detectives out to validate the tip," Guglielmi tells People.
Other outlets are reporting that police are even investigating whether or not Smollett was involved in sending himself the suspicious letter preceding the alleged hate attack that landed him in the hospital.
Meanwhile, Smollett is hiring Mark Geragos to join his legal team. Geragos recently scored a huge settlement for Colin Kaepernick against the NFL. Geragos is also being tasked with talking to the press, as he has done for Kaepernick and other former clients such as Chris Brown, Winona Ryder and Michael Jackson.
