‘AMERICAN IDOL’ TOP 5 REVEALED

The top six contestants of season two of ABC’s American Idol performed live for America’s vote last night.

They sang an inspiration song of their choosing as well as a song performed at Woodstock in 1969 for some throwback performances. Judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie were on hand for feedback and went into the evening of live performances and results with their only save of the season still available to use.

The Top 6 were also joined by Grammy Award-winning artist Lauren Daigle, who served as this week’s celebrity guest mentor. Daigle, a former American Idol hopeful, auditioned in 2010 and 2012, even getting a "no" from Simon Cowell and was cut just before the Top 24 during her first try.

Last night, red-haired crooner Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon was shockingly eliminated after landing in the bottom two along with Laci Kaye Booth. Pressed to use their one save of the season as the end credits rolled, the judges voted for Booth to stay on the show as it moves into the Top 5 round next week. The performances last night:

The Woodstock Round

  • Madison VanDenburg – "Piece of My Heart" by Janis Joplin
  • Laine Hardy – "I Don’t Need No Doctor" by Joe Cocker
  • Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon – "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" by Joan Baez
  • Laci Kaye Booth – "To Love Somebody" by Janis Joplin
  • Alejandro Aranda – "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane
  • Wade Cota – "With a Little Help From My Friends" by Joe Cocker

The Showstopper Round

  • Madison VanDenburg – "I Surrender" by Celine Dion
  • Alejandro Aranda – "Poison" by Alejandro Aranda
  • Laci Kaye Booth – "Open Arms" by Journey
  • Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon – "Somewhere" from West Side Story
  • Wade Cota – "Through the Valley" by Shawn James
  • Laine Hardy – "Johnny B. Goode" by Chuck Berry

After the nationwide vote, the top four were announced. VanDenberg, Hardy, Aranda and Cota all advanced as the final four finalists. Harmon and Booth were both voted off, but the judges swooped in to finally use their save to keep Booth around, turning the top four into the top five.

Three more episodes remain of this season of Idol, with the Top 5 battling it out Sunday before the two-part finale begins May 19th.
